8 things to know before Shocker Volleyball’s home opener on Friday

Wichita State Volleyball has their home opener Friday at 7 p.m. against Tulane. Here are eight things you need to know before the game.

1. Tickets are cheaper to “pack the house”

In attempts to pack Koch Arena for their home opener, tickets for Friday’s game are only $3 instead of $8.

2. Milestones are on the horizon

Tabitha Brown is just 12 kills away for reaching 1,000 career kills and Giorgia Civita needs 51 digs to reach 1,000 career digs. As a sophomore, Civita is on track to become the fastest player to reach 1,000 career digs in Wichita State history. Civita has played in only 193 sets in her career.

3. Giorgia Civita makes national leaderboards

Civita is ranked 41st nationally in total digs (229) and is ranked 24th in digs per set (5.33).

4. The Shockers won the last meeting with the Green Wave

The last meeting in the series was in New Orleans last season. Wichita State defeated Tulane 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-16 and 25-16.

5. Tulane is coming into the game on a winning streak

Tulane is 12-3 after defeating Clemson at home Sept. 15, 3-2. They are on a six-match winning streak entering the week.

6. Wichita State is 5-6, but has faced some big competitors during non-conference play

The Shockers have faced (and have fallen to) four top-15 teams this season, including No. 1 Stanford. Although they lost to them 0-3, The Shockers put up a fight each set. The final scores were 20-25, 20-25, and 27-29 against the No. 1 team in the country.

7. There will be freebies and autographs at the game

The volleyball team will be giving away free posters as well as signing autographs following Friday’s game.

8. Shocker Faithful Meetup

“The Shocker Faithful” will be meeting up and sitting in section 108 on Friday. The Shocker Faithful is a Facebook fan group that plans different get-togethers during the season in addition to posting Shocker updates in the page.
